Description
of community agency/organization:
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a fatal inherited disease. CF affects mainly the lungs and the digestive system. In the lungs, CF causes severe breathing problems. A build-up of thick mucus makes it difficult to clear bacteria and leads to cycles of infection and inflammation, which damage the delicate lung tissues.
The Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is a Canada-wide health charity, with 52 volunteer chapters, which funds cystic fibrosis research and care.
The mission of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is to help people with cystic fibrosis. To this end, the Foundation:
- funds research towards the goal of a cure or control for CF, and supports high quality CF care;
- promotes public awareness of cystic fibrosis; and
- raises and allocates funds for these purposes.
