Andrew Welch and the Claude Fiddle Club at Claude Church
Date : 16 December 2007
Category : Family
Event description
Storytelling and traditional music go well together.
At Claude Church on Sunday, December 16th, at 7 p.m., the Claude Fiddle Club will join forces with professional actor, Andrew Welch, to present an evening’s entertainment in support of the Caledon Community Services Food Bank. Admission is free with a donation of new toys and non-perishable food items.
Those who are familiar with the regular concerts of roots music presented at Claude will know the church is a wonderful, acoustically perfect hall, built 160 years ago by the Scottish pioneers of the area. It is a terrific and intimate venue for live music and readings.
For the concert on December 16th, Welch will read some favourites from his extensive collection of classic and contemporary Christmas excerpts and short stories. The Claude Fiddle club members will round out the entertainment with selections of traditional music, playing fiddle tunes from across Canada, as well as Christmas music. Not just fiddlers, the club also includes guitars, harmonicas, and banjos, and has also been known to play a few tunes from Reverend Randy Benson’s traditional Appalachian repertoire. It promises to be a really fun evening.
The Fiddle Club is immensely pleased to be working with Andrew Welch. As a new resident of Caledon, he brings with him a wealth of experience in stage and screen, and now specializes in readings and voice work. Locals may have already seen him having fun with the Caledon Townhall Players, where he was recently named the new Artistic Director for the 2008-09 season. Andrew is a veteran of audio books and has toured a reading of Dickens’ Christmas Carol to wide acclaim - he promises to include an excerpt for this Claude concert.
Claude Church is located at 15175 Hurontario Street, Caledon, just 15 minutes drive north of Brampton. Watch for the tall steeple on the east side of Highway 10, 3.5 km. north of King Road.
